ABOUT

I am a retired educator who is a vibist/drummer/composer/arranger. I have many years experience, mainly in popular and jazz. My last gig was 3 years with an Atlanta-based big band (I played drums).
As a vibist and arranger, I am presently considering finding a vocalist, preferrably female, to establish a good duo to perform in up-scale restaurants, and other venues along those lines. I am thinking a mix of tasteful pop, jazz standards, bossa novas, blues, swing, even a little country, and maybe other music the singer might want to do. Think of the kind of music people might like to hear in an upper-scale establishment. If this is you, let's talk.

I am also an experienced arranger who has written for all size bands. NOTE: I am not, and have never been, the kind of drummer who shows off; I am a band drummer.

Influences

Vibes: Hampton, Milty JAckson, Cal Tjader
Drums: Tony Denicola, other tasteful big-band drummers. I am not a Buddy Rich-type - I believe that drummer is there to hold the band together and, above all else, set the feel of the music. A drummer should not be a not show off.

EQUIPMENT

Drums: 2 drum sets: early 1970's Rogers, and a special big-band set that I built myself. My snare drum is a 1940 Slingerlans Radio King - Buddy Rich model. I have a number of other snare drums, including a 1941 Ray McKinley Radio King, several snares which I built myself, and 2 Clingerland TDR snares that were custom built by Charlie Tappan.
Vibe: Musser Pro vibes.
