ABOUT

Hello, thanks for checking out my profile. I've been a performing musician since I was 13 (underage in roadhouse country-southern rock bar band with musicians 20+ years older… lots of interesting stories). Since then I've played in an extraordinarily wide range of groups doing both originals and covers in New York and Boston before moving to Atlanta in the mid-90's.

I’ve typically leaned towards music that requires a combination of fire and finesse. Interesting changes, harmonies, and grooves.

I'm looking to have fun playing and performing with others that are committed but easy going. I’m open to do any great music and can pick up and play pretty much anything quickly. After 50 years, I still take lessons from the best teachers and play at least 3 hours a day. Very reliable. No drama and no stress.

Influences

My influences range from jazz to rock to county players. I would describe my playing as melodic, punchy, articulate, and in your face. As I was getting started my influences included Paul Kossoff, Jeff Beck, Robin Trower, Peter Green, Steve Gaines, Jerry Reed, Louie Shelton (studio musician).

I went through a jazz fusion phase and played a good bit of Return to Forever, Al Di Meola, Tribal Tech, Scott Henderson, etc. I’ve also played a lot of country and have focused on picking up tunes and technique from Brad Paisley, Brent Mason, the Hellecasters, Johnny Hiland, etc.

I was a long time student of the late great Ede Wright here in Atlanta. I've had a tendency to go right to the source when I've wanted to learn. When I've been playing country, I've taken lessons with Will Ray (Hellecasters) and Johnny Hiland. I've also taken private lessons with Scott Henderson and done masterclasses with Oz Noy.
