ABOUT

I have been a songwriter for as long as I have played and performed, which is 50+ years. Most of the years that I performed, I did so as a solo artist, playing predominantly country and Americana type music.

In 2007, I suffered a catastrophic hand injury to my left fretting hand which put me out of commission for more than a year, until I could even pick up a guitar. I then devoted the next 10 years to retraining myself to play and became, in the process, a very different, though much more skilled type of guitar player; more of a lead guitarist rather than a rhythm guitarist. I've not performed since then but I'm very interested in getting back into the game. As far as my present skill level on the guitar, I am as good as I've ever been. In that regard, the hand injury was probably the best thing that ever happened to me.

Vocally, I can still provide lead vocals, though at age 67, I can't reach as many high notes as I once did. Probably a much better harmonizer at this point, but I've always been great at present viding harmonies. My voice has been compared over the years to more of a James Taylor and Bruce Cockburn mix, if you can hear that in your mind.

Performing with other musicians is somet I find quite enjoyable, though I strongly detest what I refer to as "song hogs", which are musicians who fail to recognize that, in a band scenario, a song is a sort of community effort, and that one player should not dominate the tune all the way through, but rather contribute their part and yield to other member's parts by complimenting that part instead if drowning it out.. I'm surprised at the number of live musicians who don't get that.

Anyway, I'm eager to see if being a part of BandMix leads to anything of substance!
