Awake The Lion is a indie/folk rock band based in Delray Beach. We frequently play in the Delray area, at venues such as 3rd & 3rd, Kevro's Art Bar, etc.

Aaron has been writing music as a way of coping since he was eight years old. He has been performing as a solo singer/songwriter for more than nine years, but has been actively performing and writing new music over the last couple years accompanied by various musicians.

Last year Aaron reconnected with an old friend, Schuyler, who has been playing drums and percussion all his life. Together the two formed Awake the Lion and have been continuing to refine the songs and the sound of the band, while seeking other members to complete it. Recently Jim joined after meeting and jamming with the band at Kevro's Art Bar. He brings a definitive element to the band's sound with the saxophone that can escalate the intensity of a dynamic build-up and provide simple soothing harmonies in more mellow moments.

We are currently seeking a bassist. Preferably someone who plays both an acoustic upright bass as well as an electric bass.

We continue to look for other accompaniment, such as the violin, cello, and piano, or any other instruments. We have also played with a female vocalist which really went well with the rasp and power of Aaron's vocals. We would love to have someone around that knows more than one instrument and gives us greater dexterity of sound.

In the end we are open to anything, our songs are still relatively flexible, and we write new songs all the time. We certainly admire the way some bands like Dave Matthews Band, will change the composition of their songs for various performances.

Influences

Our sound is strongly influenced and inspired by the music we love. Everything from Dave Matthews Band, Mumford & Sons, and City and Colour to Death Cab for Cutie, Mute Math, Spoon, Arcade Fire, Alt-J, and even old school swing, jazz, and jam bands. We primarily play original music, but aim to incorporate covers from the above bands and other modern bands instead of the age-old rock songs every band covers.
