ABOUT

Cultural Relativity was formed by Jesse Calhoun and Kawari (Charles Pope) who have been friends since 5th grade and began playing guitar together their last year of High School. Jesse's songwriting has continued to flourish while Kawari's lead playing has melded with Jesse's fingerpicking style as well as branched out into the domains of Hendrix, Vai, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. They were a 2 man show for a long time until in 2004, Jesse got up the courage to ask Elliot Hetzer, Wittenberg University's phenomenal Jazz band drummer to join the fray. The chemistry was awesome. Soon they were playing many Wittenberg area gigs and people were asking about a CD and if we would add a bass player. They sought to add a bass player for some time until they happened to be sitting outside the Wittenberg student center one day... when Mike Holley passed by. An amazing coincidence... he was a bass player. We got his phone number, but it being the beginning of summer, lost touch for approximately 2 years, when at a Battle of the Bands - Jesse asked Mike if he was still interested in playing with Cultural Relativity. Mike came on board and proved to be a powerhouse of both versitale musical style as well as a brilliant counterpoint to the compositions of Jesse. The band is currently working on releasing it's first full-length CD and has a 5 song demo that is available to the public.
