ABOUT

My name is Davey Dacus.

I'm a guitar player. I'm 33 years old. I started playing guitar when I was 15. I went from having zero interest in music to music just being something that I absolutely couldn't live without at that time. No clue why it hit me at that age but it did. I've had a regular job that prohibited any sort of gigging for years but I've changed jobs about 4 months ago and I find find myself with the desire to do more with music now.

I keep sharp by teaching guitar 2 nights a week and jamming with some guys I know about once per week. I'm holding a guitar probably 6-8 hours per week during that time plus a little more playing at home.

My current job still limits things somewhat. I would be available every other month for weekend gigs. I love music. But I have a family and a mortgage to also manage. I work night shift as well 3 nights per week, rotating schedule. it's best to leave a message or shot an email. I will eventually respond when I'm both conscious and not on the clock.

Influences

SRV is my biggest influence. Along with several other more modern blues players. Kenny Wayne Shepard. Joe bonamassa. Etc...

My guitar teacher, Larry Daniel is a big influence. He's not famous so I'll describe what I hear in his playing. Very deliberate notes, not messy. He follows chords really well with lead work. Impeccable timing, if your drummer gets off, just listen for Larry's playing. He also has a really good figerstyle repertoire. His fingerstyle is a little different than Chets or any of the famous ones but is very good. He gave me my foundation of theory and music construction in general.

A friend of mine Kip Dockery taught me several jazz standards. I've never been a huge jazz fan, but in these jazz "lessons" he taught me I learned how to navigate chord progressions better, appreciate different intervals, and they opened up several options I use in my playing now. I was decent with chords before all that but I learned multiple new voicing and positions and ways of seeing chords on the fretboard.

I can appreciate anything from heavy metal to Chet Atkins style finger picking. Never been a huge modern country music fan.

EQUIPMENT

I have enough gear to do most any thing needed of a guitar player.

Acoustics
A high end Martin with no pickup that could be micd
An Alvarez Yairi with great electronics perfect for mixing with a band
A backup Alvarez AD-80 with an LRBaggs system that could function in either scenario above.

Electric guitars
Several stratocasters, a Nashville tele, Les Paul, a high end custom made p90 guitar that gets some good tones as well.

Amps
Kemper profiler would likely be my main unit
Crate V3112 class A tube with a pedal board for a backup rig.
Vintage finder amp that would probably stay home.

The one thing I think I'm missing is a really good nylon string guitar.
