ABOUT

We’re an indie rock/punk band in Northern Colorado (Loveland/Fort Collins) looking for a drummer. Currently we have a vocalist/guitarist (myself) and a bassist. We may end up having a cellist/violinist as well. Our goal at this stage is just to play shows and have fun, although we take practice somewhat seriously. Mostly just that you’re consistently available for it. We’d be happy to chat and answer any questions, even if you aren’t confident you’re interested. (There is a link to rough demoes of some of our songs at the end of this description.)

Sonically, we’re in the ballpark of The Menzingers or The Weakerthans. Structurally and thematically, we take heavy influence from The Mountain Goats and Direct Hit!. If you haven’t heard of those bands, don’t worry at all, that’s not important to us. We also won’t make you listen to them.

You need to be able to play fast doubles on the kick and keep good time over 150 BPM. We expect you to be able to learn and practice the songs on your own, although we’ll work on them at a pace you’re comfortable with and give you any help you need. Most of the songs are pretty simple, so historically we’ve done one song a week, but we’re happy to go at your pace. The programmed drums in the demos are mostly inaccurate to the parts we’ve written. We’re also open to you changing the parts as you like, as long as we’re all into how it sounds.

We have a 7-track record written and demoed as well as a handful of other songs. The record includes songs about a courthouse which grows limbs and wanders through the city eating high school cross country runners, a warehouse worker driven by the monotony of his life to murder his supervisor with a boxcutter and flee to New Orleans, and zombies whose infection compels them to emigrate north by crawling on top of cargo trains. Although outlandish in premise, these songs try to be somewhat thoughtful and sentimental in contrast.

I (Matt) started Dead Claire as a folk punk band my freshman year of high school with a couple of classmates. I eventually fell out of touch with them, and only recently started the band back up as a fully-electric indie rock band. I have the blessing of those former members to continue the band without them, and I’ve talked to one of them about potentially joining us on violin/cello.

You can listen to proof-of-concept iPhone demoes of our record at the link below. I think we’d recommend Copper Trees and Drunken Wolf if you only listen to a couple. The finished versions of some of the songs will be a little faster and more aggressive.

We’re excited to talk to you!

Best wishes,
Dead Claire

EQUIPMENT

Matt is a sound engineer with a home studio that includes a great deal of equipment.

Drum-wise, we have a 3-piece Tama Starclassic maple kit with a Tama superstar snare and mostly DW hardware. The cymbals aren’t great (I forget the brand), so you might want to bring your own, but you don’t have to.

That kit is currently in a storage locker, because we’ve struggled to find a practice space since I (Matt) moved temporarily to a townhouse where I can’t make much noise. If you can supply a practice space, that’s awesome, otherwise, there are some public options that should work. If you do have a space we can use, we can supply all of the necessary equipment.
