ABOUT

Inspired by his legendary uncle, the late great Billy Preston, his aunt, Rodena Preston, a Gospel legend in her own right and, the Matriarch of the family, Derrick’s grandmother,The late Robbie Preston Williams, who’s credits included singing with Maheillia jackson & was a founding member of the Ladies of Song.
Derrick developed a love for music & drumming at a young age.
Growing up around such refined talent, allowed Derrick to grow to become a fine musician.
At age six Derrick debuted performing live, and was featured playing drums on a recording with Billy & Rodena for the Preston Family Album. The track was ampalley named Derrick’s Tune.
Hooked from the start, Derrick would go on to travel the world sharing and enjoying his gifts.
While traveling with Klass I, a very talented vocal group, The bass player on the gig, began to refer to Derrick by the name “Scrappy”. This was likely due to his small stature. With that said, there is nothing small about Derrick’s pressence behind the kit.
The name “Scrappy” would become his calling card and the name that is heard most often on stage. Today Derrick can be seen & heard drumming on records, movie soundtracks; music videos and on television.
