A native of Peru, Diego Val grew up knowing that he was destined to be a star. At age 14, his grandmother gave him his first guitar and lessons. Frustrated by the difficulty of the class, Diego dropped out and began teaching himself how to play. “I would watch music videos for hours and mimic the placement and movement of their hands; eventually, what I played started to sound like music.” Encouraged by his mother, he began nurturing his talent by joining the school chorus and band. “He would spend hours in his room practicing guitar and writing songs,” said Diego’s mom. At age 15, Diego was a guest on the famous Peruvian television show, R&R. Besides his obvious wit and charming smile, the producers of the show saw something special in him and offered him a recurring role after the taping. “I thought: This is cool, but my passion is still music. I didn’t want to lose sight of my dream.” Unable to deny his talent and potential, the R&R producers suggested that Diego try out for the Latin American version of American Idol, Generation R. Not only did Diego make it onto the show, but he made it all the way to the finals. Down to the last 2 contestants, Diego took home the 2nd place prize. “I was disappointed, but the loss made me try harder to be successful.” Diego’s mom moved them to Miami, FL where he continued to compose and perform his music. After a few years of playing at local venues, Diego was discovered by Musika Management’s President, Aurelio Duque. “I immediately thought that this kid has what it takes,” said Duque. Diego describes his style as a blend of poetic lyrics, rich vocals, and the acoustic guitar coming together make an intoxicating sound. Currently, Diego is in production working on his next project.
