ABOUT

Not interested in covers (will include a few). Prefer as small a group as possible, power trio being ideal, four pieces max. Can handle a two piece very well. Can write lyrics when necessary. Enjoy purely instrumental music as well. Enjoy improv & jam. Willing to play with musicians of all ages, so long as the music works for me.

Most recently, I've played punk rock with grungy tendancies. In the past, metal, hard rock, blues.

To hear the most recent recordings with me playing, search for the band "Pillory Of Society" on .

I never put a band together looking for a preconceived "sound" or trying to sound like anybody else in particular, no matter how much I might dig their music. In fact, I'd rather not sound like ANYBODY else, and have always brought together musicians & attempted to bring out the natural sound & style of each, blending that into a unique sound. This has been very successful, at least musically. Going with the natural creative flow, rather than against it, gives the best results.

I'm very flexible, but I DO have limits. Won't play country. No goddamned "christian" music either. Open to most forms of rock if the energy level is high (metal, punk, grunge, alternative, progressive, psychedelic blues, funk, whatever). Frankly, I hate categorizing music or putting it into pigeon holes. Just please don't come to me with crap that's going to put me to sleep at my drumkit. And please grant me some creative freedom at my kit.

To me, heavy metal means Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Megadeth & Iron Maiden. I'm not a fan of death metal or the Lamb of God type stuff, though I do like what is often referred to as "doom metal" or "sludge metal". Again, I just hate slapping labels on music.

Looking for serious, driven musicians, not hobbyists. Looking to keep it serious & businesslike, but still very enjoyable and relaxed. Not looking to share musicians with another band. If you are already in a band and planning to stay in that band, please do not contact me about forming an additional band or "project". Not looking for sloppy seconds.

If you're into drugs, can't be honest, or if drinking interferes with your onstage performance, or if you're too pussy-whipped to make a band your top priority, then please do NOT waste my time. Okay?

I MUCH prefer a phone call, but for those terrified to use a telephone (read between the lines):

Influences

I am influenced and inspired by percussionists from many genres which include hard rock, heavy metal, blues, jazz, and afro-cuban. Drummers who have influenced me include: Ginger Baker, Bill Ward, Mitch Mitchell, Michael Shrieve, Scott Travis, David Silveria, Miguel "Angá" Diaz, Adel González, Rolando Salgado, Calixto Oviedo, Giovanni Hidalgo, Tito Puente, Bobby Sanabria, and others whose names escape me at the moment.

For reference, I dig these groups: Cream, Blind Faith, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Dio, Misfits, Danzig, Rage Against The Machine, The Vines, Godsmack, Disturbed, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Ramones, Sum 41, Audioslave, Dishwalla, Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, Clutch, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Jimi Hendrix, Puddle of Mud, Mountain, Stone Temple Pilots, Korn, Pillory Of Society, Carlos Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Billie Holiday, Stevie Wonder, Fats Waller, Greenday, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, Miriam Makeba, Buena Vista Social Club, Sierra Maestra, The Afro Cuban All Stars, Chico Che y La Crisis, Sonora Carruseles, Fruko y Sus Tesos.

Doesn't mean that I'm trying to sound like any of those in particular. Just means I dig listening to a very eclectic mix of music.
