ABOUT

I like to play Jazz, Latin-influenced Jazz, Fusion, and Progressive Rock with a World Music influence.

I'm always open to getting together with competent musicians to play. It doesn't have to result in a gig, I just love to play with good players.
One of my greatest strengths is the ability to spontaneously listen, interpret and respond to the music in the moment.

You can listen to a live radio performance I did with the Rehugnant Jazz Quartet back in 2018 by using your browser's search engine to do a search for "Rehugnant Jazz Quartet Live On Kaleidoscope" (bandmix doesn't allow external links).

I own a private recording studio and can record drum tracks for your song if you supply me with the multitrack files/stems. I will overdub drum tracks on as many separate tracks as required, i.e. every drum on it's own track or a 2 channel mix, whatever you want. There is a picture or two of the studio in the photos section. Examples included here are Hang Time and A Sketch Of Spain, on which I played drums, engineered, and mixed. Contact me to discuss rates if you are interested in this.

Influences

I admire these drummers in no particular order and many others as well. They've all had a huge influence on either my playing, musical tastes or both:
Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Phil Gould, Peter Erskine, Phil Collins, Lenny White, Neil Peart, Jeff Porcaro, Andy Newmark, Mike Portnoy, Gavin Harrison, Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Marco Minneman, Billy Cobham, Dennis Chambers, Bill Bruford, and there are many more great players I haven't mentioned!
Bands or Artists I like include Peter Gabriel, Porcupine Tree, Rush, Yes, Weather Report, Jean-Luc Ponty, Bob Marley, Messenjah, Steel Pulse, The Aristocrats, Toto, Uzeb, Allan Holdsworth, Alain Caron, Level 42, Snarky Puppy, Dire Straits, and also many others, including classical composers like Ravel and Mahler.

EQUIPMENT

8 piece vintage Tama drums (for recording), 6 piece Tama StarClassic (for live gigs). Single bass drum, single or double pedal. Lots of cymbals and a great 1980's Milestone snare drum. I don't necessarily use the full setup; sometimes the music doesn't require it, or at other times there are physical space limitations.

CALENDAR

Past Events

June 29 at 7:00 PM I'll be playing a Jazz Therapy gig at The Shiloh Grille, 5515 N Main, St Dayton Ohio. We play mainly traditional Jazz Standards such as "I Will Wait For You" and "Autumn Leaves", with a few more recent tunes like "Moondance", "Sister Moon" and What's Going On". Joining me will be Pat Polanski on Keyboard and Vocals, Mark Sisson on Bass and Vocals, and Ralph Jones on Guitar and Vocals.

The Shiloh Grille is a great venue, we've played there before. If you like great Jazz and cool music come on out!

The Rehugnant Jazz Quartet will be playing in Hamilton Ohio at North Second Tap & Bottle June 15. As usual I'll be on my 80's vintage Tama drums. Joining me will be Ralph Jones, Guitar; Kerry Jordan, Bass and David Palmer, Keyboards. This is a great venue - be sure to come on out and see us!
North Second Tap & Bottle is located at 134 N 2nd St, Hamilton, OH 45011
