The underground Hip Hop and R&B scene in Eugene is shaken by the emergence of rising MC and SoCal native Jay Russo. Influenced by legends such as Eminem and the bay area’s E-40 along with contemporary artists such as Schoolboy Q and G-Eazy, Josh Allen Smith finds expression through hip hop’s medium under the moniker Jay Russo and begins his journey to become a master “MC.” Jay Russo’s catalyst for picking up the mic stems from the emotional trauma felt from the destructive effect of cancer on his family and he channels and translates that experience through his lyrical content. Jay Russo covers a wide territory in themes, tackling universally felt raw emotions such as under-appreciation and regret in tracks such as “Sleeping” and “She Missin” from his debut album Bloody Air, that was released on the auspicious night of Friday the 13th last October. That album saw the collaboration with seasoned Slothy Records producers 4Rest and Hobeezy, featuring mixing and mastering done by Keyz Regal Republic and RAMIXED. As 2018 ramps up, be on the lookout for Jay Russo and his music in the coming months.
