I also play alternative, jazz and classic metal but they only let you pick 4 genres...
As you can see, I play a lot of different styles and instruments. I prefer music that is either traditional or cutting edge, or a combination of those two things. I don't care much for middle-of-the road radio-friendly rock, pop, or country. I like music that is intense in some way...beyond that it could be anything from Blind Willie Johnson and Bill Monroe to Black Sabbath and Sonic Youth.
That being said, I'll take just about any gig that pays well, as long as there's not a bunch of unpaid rehearsals involved. I learn fast and generally don't need that, unless the music is very challenging. Even then, I prefer to work it out on my own and just meet up to polish the arrangements. I do enjoy playing all types of music, but definitely have my preferences.
