ABOUT

With close to two decades in the NYC music scene, Jeremy has played with local and national touring bands in the "world music" genre such as Zozo Afrobeat, a 13 piece afrobeat ensemble in NYC led by former Fela Kuti Egypt 80 band member, Kaleta, Zongo Junction, Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble along with some percussion sub work on the Fela! broadway musical, playing conga/percussion in 2010 just before the show closed.
He was also principle percussionist for several years with Suarez Dance Theater and has collaborated in many performances with a number of groups and individual artists from world class shows including Stomp, Cirque Du Soleil, Anti-Gravity, The Metropolitan Opera and The Big Apple Circus!
He has studied djembe and dundun with Mamady Keita, Ladji Camara, M'Bemba Bangoura, Michael Markus and Mohamed Diaby, at Fareta School of Drum and Dance, The Drummer's Collective and The New School University. Cajon teachers include Jose Montana, Lalo Izquierdo and Paquito Gonzalez.
Jeremy took a brief hiatus in 2013 to form The THREAD Arts Collective and get his Cajon drum company, J. King Percussion, up and running in Massachusetts, he's back and looking forward to sharing all he has learned with anyone looking to further their knowledge of traditional and contemporary music of Africa and the Diaspora.

Provide instruction on West African Djembe and Dundun drumming to students of all ages and skill levels. Focus is on fundamental concepts of African rhythm based drumming, proper hand and stick technique and developing the ability to play with a full percussion ensemble. Teach accompaniment rhythms for Djembe and Dundun drums for all traditional rhythms.

Provide instruction on Afro-Latin/Afro-Cuban drumming & percussion to students of all ages and skill levels. Focus is on fundamental concepts of Afro-Caribbean rhythm, proper technique and developing the ability to play with a full percussion ensemble.
