Johnny Jukebox AKA “Johnny Woohah” got his name for the way he pumps out the tunes with power much like a standard jukebox... only live! He started out strumming his guitar just for fun in 1994 on the streets of his old home town of Waterloo in the finger lakes region of upstate N.Y., and quickly made fans and friends alike wherever he went. From ‘98 to 2000 he was one half of a powerful acoustic duo called Doubting Thomas. They have also engaged in many philanthropic events including a guest spot on 96 WCMF’s “Brother Wease Morning Circus” in Rochester N.Y., and were invited back that same week to do a benefit for kids cancer research. After disbanding in 2000, Willie Shutter (www.willieshutter.com) and Johnny both went solo, mutually exploring other musical avenues. That, and they came to find out their band name was already being used by a band formed by a former member of The Clash.
Johnny’s musical styling ranges from hybrid acoustic/electronic to traditional, rock, roots, folk, and American roots. He has even been known to bust out some hip-hop from time to time. Musical influences include Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch, and bands like Radiohead and Sublime.
