ABOUT

My name is Jordan, I'm 27, live in South Everett, and have been playing both guitar and bass for the last 1.5-2 years. I'm not astonishing, I'm still relatively green as far as music theory is concerned, but have been developing that, my technique and my fretboard logic pretty consistently over the course of the last year or so.

Before I go on a bit more about myself, if you're looking for a 10+ year veteran with gigging/show experience, I am not that guy. Someday, hopefully, but not now. As I stated above, I am still very much learning. I am seeking a group of people who want to, not only jam but, grow as musicians, become good friends and support each other in a musical adventure. Essentially, create a musically metal family (I know that sounds very toolish, but I hope you know what I mean).

A little bit more about myself: I mostly only practice guitar, but I started out on bass and continue to play it at least once a week. I attempted lessons once for bass and once for guitar and it didn't really work out. I don't want to be arrogant and say it was no fault of mine, but I think I've figured out that I learn better when I'm playing with other individuals who are learning as well. I started out learning these instruments in an improvised jam setting and have continued to learn in that atmosphere. For the last 2 years I have spent every Friday night (sometimes Saturday night instead) improvising jam sessions with a few friends of mine, who are also learning their respective instruments (drums, bass, guitar, vocals). Where I lack in the ability to play full songs that people know, I more than make up for in the ability to improvise fast, hard, or funky rhythm lines to help push a jam session into life. It am more often than not able to stay in key and rhythm.

Typically, in the jam sessions, I play standard rock to allow the other guys something easy to spring off of. However, at home in practice, I am almost always playing thrash, fast-paced metal, or working on rhythm syncopation. The great thing is I've noticed these almost directly transfer over to the bass for me, so I am relatively versatile in a jam situation.

Here is an example of one our recently recorded jam sessions. Forgive the dialogue in the beginning. We were all stoned out of our minds. :) Even the vocals are improvised in this one. At one point, I think he's quoting an Eddie Murphy stand-up routine. I'm on guitar in this one. I think at one point I retracted to a Zepplin riff. It was great (and recorded with a phone, so forgive the quality).

Anyway, I'm personally just trying to branch out from the standard rock stuff of my other group jams and get more toward the heavier side of music (metal, thrash) and, in all honesty, just create progressive music I can look back on be proud of - heavy or not - with a group of people who share the same passion for learning and creating music. I've been hoping to meet others in the same boat.
