LRENEE (also L’Renee) began an entrepreneurial career in music with her first studio album release “Special Song” 2004 and since then released 6 additional albums. Two of them studio albums (“Second Chances”-2006, “Europe”-2008), one live album (“Jazz”-2007), one Christmas EP (“Merry Christmas”-2008), and two karaoke albums (“Karaoke I”-2009 and “Karaoke II”-2009).
Her entrepreneurial work as an independent artist landed her a full page advertisement compliments of VIBE magazine as a result of organic plays of her published music on the then popular social media platform Black Planet. Her demo spread around among top record executives and caught the attention of major label reps when the song “Call Me” (Special Song 2004) was lifted for its catchy hook and utilized by a major artist without acknowledgement for her work as a writer. Other work that she has recorded with other Detroit artists circulated and she became one of the most sought after “voices” of underground detroit hip hop/r&b as a session vocalist working with K’Jon, Super MC, Big Tone and Dwele which led to her cameo on Dwele’s album “Greater Than” alongside artists Black Milk and J Tait (Dwele’s background singer).
Taking a tip by a fellow high school classmate and friend to enter into a vocal competition orchestrated by Andre Harell (Super Soul Singer Competition-2009) she won the regional level and peeked the interest of judge/panelist Toya Hankins (Project Producers LLC) who is also the personal manager for Universal Motown/Capital Records Recording Artist KEM. Seeking out LRENEE to audition as a background vocalist for KEM, Toya Hankins opened the door to an opportunity for LRENEE that lead to her eventual signing to KEM’s independent label, Kemistry Records (2013), as the first recording artist signed to his independent label originally designed for him as a vehicle to distribute his own music that lead to his signing to Motown Records.
LRENEE’s alignment with KEM and Kemistry Records resulted in her mention in many major publications including Billboard, Singer’s Room, Ticketmaster, and others as “…keeping the light on for R&B music”(Billboard), “…commanding the stage with the vocal power and stage presence of a true star”(You Know I Got Soul), “…she is a singer's singer. She puts you in the mind of the legends that I adore—Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle etc. I really wanted to let the world know that I believe in her, and that she's coming out.” (Examiner).
