Our band is looking for one more member.
Who we are: four experienced musicians, with birthyears in the 1950s, 1970s and 1980s, with several multi-instrumentalists. We've been together for almost two years (including a lengthy COVID break). Our core sound is a jazz-influenced version of a simple folk/country tune, but we blur the lines around the edges. We mostly play standard Americana tunes, but have a few originals too. We don't gig much, have day jobs and families, but we all still like playing. (The gigs are good excuses to tighten up our repertoire.) The perfect gig is the corner of an art gallery opening. Rehearsal is once a week, we have a great space in North Hills, and everyone usually has one craft beer. We're a laid back group that places a high value on creativity, listening, and obscure references.
Who you are: an experienced instrumentalist with good lead chops, both reading a lead sheet and improvising. You play sax, trumpet, maybe even violin. You can probably switch to keys, and/or maybe drums too, if the song calls for it. Maybe you listen to Bill Frisell and Yo-Yo Ma's collaborations with Edgar Meyer. Maybe you fell in love with violin after hearing Stephane Grappelli. Maybe you're tired of being in that Prince cover band and playing someone else's solos every show. You'll get a chance to hang out, help create new arrangements, take a lead or two per song, have a beer, talk about your kids, whatever.
