ABOUT

I recently moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I'm looking for people who know how to play their instrument, are comfortable playing at different dynamics (not just loud and louder), are creative and bring a good energy to the table. I have experience in jazz (straight ahead/traditional/bid band/fusion), blues, funk, soul, indie, Americana and rock. I enjoy playing anything that is interesting, unique, has depth/soul and encourages me to grow as a musician. I find myself most attracted to music in the genre's of jazz, soul, indie and funk these days, but I'm not limited to them. I practice regularly (most days) with a metronome. In practice, I work to keep a balance between technique and feel.

Influences

As far as drummers go, I'm a fan of Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Art Blakey, Joe Morello, Nate Smith, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Ginger Baker. Mitch Mitchel, Terri Bozzio, Billy Cobham...

I like to think my approach to drums is more inspired by great songwriters, composers, instrumentalists and singers. Recently I've been listening to Vulfpeck, Artie Shaw, Dr. DOG, Frank Zappa, and Sharron Jones, among others.

EQUIPMENT

I have a full-size kit (Gretsch Renown) for louder rooms and a smaller suitcase kit (custom build) for more intimate environments. I'll choose from a collection of cymbals (Zildjian, Sabian, Minel, Bosphorus, Istanbul) and snare drums (Gretsch, Ludwig, Yamaha - various sizes wood/brass/aluminum) depending on the context. All of my gear is pro-quality, thoughtfully selected and well maintained. I'm solid with sticks or brushes.
