ABOUT

ORISSA is a modern, progressive metal project, currently based in New York city. We have a lineup of top players except our rad minimum of 5 strings low end groove master. We are looking for the right bass player and person to come in and complete the lineup. We are currently booking shows with another band in our collective and we are using triggered bass tracks. It works for now, but we prefer you be playing them with your tone and your energy and your skill deeply grooving with the rest of us.

We are booking venues for the spring, have a late spring/early summer CD release show. We are also joining some friends at a festival in Denver late July and plan to play some dates in the midwest -> east on the way back home.

You need to be professional. You need to have gear, skills and be a true professional - meaning you play great but you also are reliable and contributing to a band that is growing its audience. In addition, it would be great if you have any other skills to bring to the table in this DIAY (do it all yourself) era. Finally, we work hard, but levity and a healthy perspective are also required to stay sane and make this worth doing.

How to Contact Us:
Please respond with samples of your playing - preferably videos of live performances and produced studio recordings. No samples no audition. We will provide tracks for and schedule an audition based on what we hear and if in this initial phase there are no smells of flakiness.

Here is a link to the music. We will select 3 songs for you to learn in the audition for those who we respond back to. Looking forward to hearing from some very talented musicians who play bass.

Influences

Musicians who influence us are too numerous to mention. They include great musicians from any style of music from any epoch and location.

We make use of harmonies and rhythms not typically found in popular music, (as in music that is not Classical, Jazz and 'ethnic' music). We are inspired by and seem to fit into the category of bands that don't really fit into a category or a style per se. Bands who inspire include: Karnivool; Tool; Sikth; Pillars Of The Sky; Skyharbor; Opeth; Pain Of Salvation;

We are also inspired by: William Hung's vocal theatrics and charisma; T-Pain's guitar wizardy; Miley Cyrus' gelatinous ass; The Crocodile Hunter's karmic come-uppance by getting stung in the heart by a stingray;

Our current recordings make heavy use of Balkan odd-meter, lush harmonies, and large scale dramatic forms. We stand open to moving in any direction as long as it is true to who we are.
