The Ego Section! :)

let me first explain, I am MAINLY a guitarist. Just because I do play other instruments, doesn't mean I will, unless it's to cover your sick bassist or drummer for a gig.

I grew up in NY. Well. "Grew up" is purely subjective though - at 44 I can still beat you at any nintendo game.

Taking some piano lessons at an early age, I decided to rebel and took up drums at age 9 (and for the next several years, was infatuated with Neil Peart, Keith Moon, Ian Paice and Carl Palmer). That lasted until about age 16, when I realized guitars were more portable (if you didnt have a car, carrying a drumkit to practice was undoable unless you had many friends.. and even then, you had to talk them into it (or share your smoke with them)). Guitar stayed with me for the next 25 years. Although I still tinker on the drums, and can actually still hold my own. Ritchie Blackmore was my first official influence on guitar. Anything from DP to Rainbow. Fast forward (because, I know you don't really care.. but again, this is all about me)... major influences are Benatar (Geraldo), Page, Blackmore, Heart (Leese), Lifeson, Campbell, Rhoads, Halen, Vaughn, Deville, Ralphs, and many others I have stolen technique or form from. How the hell can you list everyone that have ever listened to and said "Oh, I need to learn that particular modal shift..." blah blah blah....

Late 80s, I secured a position at KORG (Korg Keys, Marshall Amps, Westbury guitars, etc) which exposed me to not only great technologies on the cutting edge, but also many of the endorsee/artists, such as Winwood, Emerson, Kaye, Leavell, Nichols, to name a few. Then heading up departments at Sam Ash in NY, and Rhythm City in Atlanta, brought even more exposure, and made many contacts and friends. A side effect of all that was also my entry into the recording world. I also landed a position with a local Metal hair band called Jesta - playing some of the larger local venues on Long Island, to include stage antics using wireless guitars (a novelty at the time), smoke machines and crazy 80s spandex type clothes. Then later in Atlanta, a band called Billy The Fish, with Rob Kemp (Vapors), Ron Redifer (known to jam frquently with members of the satellites, vapors and black crowes) and a few others. Fast forward again (because, I just feel like it)...

Currently I am gigging in a Manassas-based band called Stone Candy. Some of the recent bands have also included Bad Monkey (former Molly Hatchet personnel formed group), Rampage (Joe Sanchez from 105.5 Classic Rock on drums) and WTF (with Sara Coleman on Vocals, Arch Alcantara (Leanne) on guitar).

I live to play - I'll jam with anyone. Blues, Rock, Country, Metal. I don't care. Get a grind going -- feel it gel, there's nothing better. Even better than sex (sometimes) but never better than a fast pint of guinness. Yeah, I said that out loud.

Oh yeah, and I hate long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners, cozying up on the couch with a movie, and I am an aquarius, born in the year of the dragon, which means if you get onstage with me, and arent there for the pure enjoyment of making music because it's fun, I'll run you over with my 800 pound motorcycle just after I shove my ibanez up your arse. You arent going to be a rock star (SURPRISE!), and no, shoving a sock down the front of your pants is not a chick-magnet. Just play the freakin music and let the teeny-boppers get the groove on. It's what we are there for.

First - I will say this straight out: I am NOT into jam bands. Nor am I into extended soloing - egotistical-noodling. I like to learn the songs as they were recorded, with maybe some deviation for spice. The crowd gets bored when you go off on jam-tangents, unless of course they have just taken a few ounces of mushrooms. I am not into that crowd anyway - widespread panic and phish can cover that arena. Not than I cant hold my own anytime someone says "take this next solo..." etc., just dont like drawn out crap for ego sake.

I will take:

Pathetic mid-life crisis well-adjusted already-have-a-career and family types who like to play for fun and a few extra bucks on a weekend - NOT looking to enter a recording contract (again) only to realize you might, just might, NOT be one of the one-in-ten-million that actually get a chance to tour and go broke and bankrupt after prematurely spending their advance and overdose on their self-pity and blame the system for taking away their creative juices.. blah blah blah. Just play the freakin music already and stop whining or I will* bitch-slap you. I am 44 and need no games.

Influences:

As much as anyone else.

But here is a list of songs, through the decades, that I have played in assorted bands (I am sure I have missed some - there are cobwebs here):
