I've played for about 8 years but haven't been in a band since my short lived days as a music major at O.U.

Al Hirt, his sound/style more than music
Arturo Sandoval (yeah, i know he's not
exactly a virtuoso but it really excites
me)
Maynard Ferguson too while we're at it.
He got me interested in pursuing jazz
trumpet when i heard him for the first
time in high school. If it wasn't for him i
never would have switched from
trombone to trumpet (my true calling)
and probably never would have
discovered the world outside Kenny G.
(hate that sh*t)
Dave Brubeck;saw him at the detroit jazz
fest in '05. he's about 85 years old now
and I've never heard anyone swing so
hard!
Wynton Marsalis (more his classical work
than jazz but he's hip)
also Rush, The Bealtes, and Pink Floyd have sculpted the very fabric of my soul to name a few.
