Taught myself to play sax in the 50s. Played in school bands. Wanted to study music, was admitted to study composition, but couldn't make enough dough to pay tuition. There was a draft then; I joined the USMC. Carried the sax to Japan where I sold it for a case of beer. Came back to US where I did other things for 50 years. Retired. Asked myself "What do you want to do?" Bought an alto. Remembered everything I had learned a half century before. Bought a yanagisawa tenor. Fell in love. Was playing 4 hours a day, until I began to worry about wrecking my hands. Taking charge of some ballads. Ready to duo with chordal instrument player. Start out rubato and tighten up.

Influences
Don't "play a song!" Take charge of it! Learned this from listening to Coltrane. I saw Louis Armstrong at the U of I in '58, Stan Getz at the Blue Note in Chi in '57, and Tony Scott in a Chicago martini bar on a stage that was so small he was stirring drinks with his clarinet! I have been educated in music by be!
