ABOUT

I've been playing saxophone for over forty years. Inspired by The Maynard Ferguson Band at the Central Michigan University Jazz Festival, I began to develop my style to be more funk, rock and soul influenced. A 1982 tour of Europe included a performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland where hearing some of the greats in jazz kindled the fire to continue playing as I headed off to college. While attending Grand Rapids Junior College, now GR Community College, I played with local bands while being the lead saxophone in the Jazz Band. After a 10-year period that included starting a family and establishing a career in industrial sales, I started playing again in area big bands. In 2008, I was a founding member of a Contemporary Christian band, Altar’d Life. We had the opportunity to open for national bands like The Sidewalk Prophets, Barlow Girl, The Neverclaim, Reilly, and Mikeschair and released an EP of original music in 2009. Influenced by artists like Clarence Clemons, Maceo Parker, Leroi Moore, Jeff Coffin, Euge Groove, Mindy Abair and Candy Dulfer, I'm currently playing in a funk/rock/R&B band, Simply In Time and an instrumental spin-off ot Simply In Time, Unprotected Sax.
