Established original pop/rock project seeks guitar and drums for collaboration

Greetings!

We're an original music recording project that we're looking to expand and evolve. Hoping to find a versatile guitarist and drummer to collaborate with. Vocals are a plus, but not necessary.

Right now this project consists of a vocalist and myself on keyboards/synths, other instruments and programming. I established the project to be a vehicle for my original music. We released our first album in 2013 and are currently working on the next (I took some time off from the project for a few years). We are both ASCAP members. I’m trying to build on this project and establish an actual core band that can help shape the next album and eventually play some shows.

The style of music is kinda hard to pinpoint, but it’s some form of pop rock. I’m strongly influenced by both a lot of progressive rock and a lot of 80s music. So what comes out in my own music is probably more akin to a mixture of progressive pop and synth rock, maybe even a little retro at times. Although in the last few years, I’ve been influenced a bit by modern electronic music – particularly BT). Check out the list of influences below to get an idea of where I’m coming from.

Essentially, here’s what I’m hoping to find…

Guitar:

-- A versatile guitarist who is comfortable playing a range of styles. While progressive rock is one of my big personal jams, I wouldn’t necessarily consider this project overtly progressive (at least, not in the traditional sense that people associate with prog). I do have some songs that are longer and more involved (8-10 minutes), but I also construct more concise songs in pop and other “adult album alternative” rock styles, and I really like a good hook/melody.

-- In essence, I’d like to find a guitarist who is not only comfortable with the heavier, rockin’ stuff and can shred or what not when necessary (take an extended solo from time to time, etc.), but also someone who has no problem just hanging back and chilling with a clean sound on some simple, subtle stuff that sits back in the mix and blends with the keys and other instruments more. I’m looking for a guitarist who can do a lot of cool, clean rhythmic stuff in addition to kickin’ ‘em in the nuts from time to time with something heavier.

-- I love guitar, and I do play a little. But I’m kind of a hack on it and have a lot of limitations to what I can do. I’m also not very skilled at coming up with ideas for different guitar parts or programming effects for guitar, etc. -- so I’d really like to collaborate with someone who is a good at these things… a guitarist who maybe writes and can come up with the great ideas for guitar that I’m not able to.

-- Otherwise, just looking for great guitar tones and a competent skill level. And maybe someone who likes to experiment with guitar effects.

Drums/percussion:

-- I’d like to find a really good, versatile drummer who specifically plays/has access to electronic drums/V-drums (or can trigger their drums, etc.). I envision some experimenting with electro drums, in addition to more standard rock/prog sounds.

-- A drummer who is comfortable playing to a click, particularly in the studio… but even live if need be. Essential for this project.

-- A drummer who is comfortable playing in different time signatures when the song calls for it (which isn’t very often… yet). And someone who doesn’t mind moving between synthpop or even dance-oriented styles and more prog rock/alt rock styles within a single album (or even single song lol!).

Right now I’m just using midi tracks/EZ Drummer for our drums, but I’d like to replace all that with the real deal if possible. ;)

A bit more about me: I use Cubase to record and have a humble home project studio, but still have quite a bit “under the hood.” Right after we released the last album 8 years ago, I switch from hard synths entirely over to virtual instruments, software synths and samples. So I’ve got a lot of software in my system, and everything I do is via computer (except for guitar and vox). Also, it’s worth noting that the first album (which you can hear on our website below) is not a reflection of where I/we are at now musically by any stretch. It’s a reflection of where I was at like 10-12 years ago. The new material has evolved a lot from where we started with the first release.

Ultimately I’d just like to find some cool people to work with for the long term who want to make some great music together and put our heads/strengths together in taking this project somewhere. This is not a “hired gun”-type situation.

Thanks for reading all of this, and I hope to hear from you.
