Influences
Music has been a part of my life from the very beginning. Due to my inability to sit still or figure out how to get all the notes off the page into the air, drums were a natural fit. Growing up I was in a number of bands, early influences were Keith Moon - WHO, Mitch Mitchel – Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham – Zeppelin, and the magical sound of Michael Shrieve and the accompanying percussionists of Santana. I just love the early WHO recordings where the band is bopping along and the drummer is just going nuts. And where all of Santana’s drummers are kicking it… thick rhythm! There are soooooo many good drummers out there today, Carter Beauford – DMB (Favorite), Mike Portnoy – Dream Theater, Dave Lombardo - Slayer, and old timer Neil Peart - Rush. I have been playing a double bass kit most of my life, Natural Maple Ludwig’s, until switching out to Tama Star Classic Maple about 10 years ago, always Zildjian Cymbals. I have learned over the years to back off a little (ok just a little J) but still working on the dynamics thing and of course I like to have a lot of different things to hit… I have also picked up the congas, tabla, and guitar over the years…One event I attended certain to change my life was a concert by musicians called “Playing for Change” .playingforchange check it out…. Connecting the world through music…
