ABOUT

I've been playing guitar for eight years and just moved to Atlanta. I've been writing and recording as Artists of War (.artistsofwar) since 2010 and have recorded seven albums, five of which are currently published. In my music I strive to be as forward-looking as possible while remaining firmly grounded in the roots that make metal so intriguing, powerful and addictive. To describe the music I make is like trying to describe a dream after waking, it's difficult to speak of in solid terms. If forced to label myself, my genre would be something like “psycho-spiritual progressive black metal.” My influences across the metal genre are wide and include sludge, prog, black, post, drone, power, math, goth, doom, thrash, death and classic. My favorite bands fuse these genres in new and exciting ways:

Black Sabbath, Mastodon, TOOL, High On Fire, Sleep, Krallice, Liturgy, Bathory, Emperor, Enslaved, Immortal, Burzum, Drudkh, Boris, Sunn, Earth, Horseback, Survival, True Widow, Baroness, YOB, OM, The Sword, Ghost, Pelican, MAKE, Black Cobra, Pallbearer, Dysrhythmia, Gojira, Cannibal Corpse, Entombed, Type O Negative, Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Megadeth, Meshuggah, System of A Down, Judas Priest

Only thing I'm not big on is grindcore or other -core bands or anything with a -mo on the end. Djent and other punk-infused sub genres are also not my taste. Don't get me wrong, I love some d-beat, but for me, punk and metal are separate beasts entirely.

Outside metal I'm interested in classical, noise rock, prog rock, shock rock, classic rock, “party” rock and some instrumentalists: Bach, Wagner, Mozart, Merzbow, Killick, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake & Palmer, KISS, Queen, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix, Daikaiju, The Darkness, Gypsyhawk, Foxy Shazam, Valient Thorr, Glenn Gould, Erik Mongraine, Michael Manring

I'm inspired thematically by various visual artists, storytellers and intellectuals including Moebius, H.R. Giger, Oscar Chichoni, Juan Gimenez, Mucha, Enki Bilal, John Baizley, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Quentin Tarantino, Joel and Ethan Coen, Hideaki Anno, Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, Brandon Graham, Alan Moore, H.P. Lovecraft, Phillip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke, Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, Gustav Jung, Sigmund Freud, Friedrich Nietzsche and Ayn Rand. I'm fascinated with the idea of science becoming religion and man becoming machine to reach a higher plain of existence free from the limitations of corporeal experience including sensory stimulation, feelings of loss, lust, greed, loneliness, abandonment, and the decay of society through nefarious governments and deteriorating ethical and moral standards.

I'd like to break down the misconception that metal is only capable of conveying anger, hate and negativity. It is a an intriguing and multifaceted medium capable of conveying something much deeper and more profound: the nce of creative inspiration and what it represents about who we are, where we come from and where we are going. I'm definitely something of an intellectual music nerd, but I can also be lighthearted and know how to have a good time. If you are interested in collaborating on studio work, live performances or otherwise, hit me up.
