I'm a 40+ year old drummer who plays for fun. Still learning, growing, & building chops. My musical history: I banged around on a drum set as a kid; played saxophone & various drums in the school band thru highschool, including tri-toms in the marching drum corps. Then I didn't play for years. I got back into playing drums around 1997ish, so I've played off & on since then, with periods of consitency that have come & gone, mostly due to when I do or don't have a place to practice. Been in a couple of 'almost bands' that were pretty decent, but ultimately fell apart. I'd say I'm fair to good, & I can lay down a solid groove. Nothing fancy here...just like to lay down a thick beat. Over the last few years, I've learned approximately 70 songs completely, with another 25-30 that were 'in the works'. Mostly standard rock & blues covers.
I've been on stage a few times & really dig it! All I really want to do is play MUSIC that I LIKE with PEOPLE that I LIKE. Meaning, I like to be in a project with like-minded people for a regular committed rehearsals and occasional gigs...from there, I'll go wherever it takes us. It's a hobby, but I take it seriously. To hear me play, look up jonesmotel on myspace (myspace dot com slash jonesmotel). That's an old band. There's some audio & one video clip there. Contact me for more info. wncdrummer@ (wncdrummer at gmail dot com).
I love all kinds of music, but I'm a rocker to the bone. Rock & Roll stirs my soul like no other...Old to New, Blues to Metal....
Huge Gov't Mule fan! Especially love the stuff from their original trio days. Also dig Cream, Zeppelin, the Who, & VH... A lot of modern stuff, too. I try to keep up with current music of many genres. I also love anything with soul. Too many favs to list here. Contact me & I'll tell you more.
I currently play a pdp 5 pc. maple kit with a brass snare. Zildjian & Sabian cymbals. It's an 'old school' rock setup (1 rack tom, 2 floor toms) with a 18x24 kick drum for a nice boom boom boom boom.
Also have a set of Roland V-drums for 'silent headphone practice' at home.
I'm really an old 'Tama' guy, so I hope to one day own a Tama Star Classic Maple kit, but lately Pacific Drums & Hardware (owned by DW) is really impressing me. This pdp maple kit I play now is one sweet set of drums!
