ABOUT

I've been in a number of bands over the years, playing originals and many, many covers. I'm not really looking for a gigging band, though if the right opportunity came along I wouldn't be against the idea. Once I commit I'm very committed. I've just reached my saturation point for four-hour gigs full of the same old same old. I love to record and I love to write, but I work best with a collaborator. I don't get much done alone. I'm wanting to try different things, see where they go. It doesn't have to be groundbreaking but creativity and a willingness to go a bit outside the norm are important. I'm not the greatest instrumentalist you'll ever hear, but I can usually get something workable out of what I have available. Bass has been my main instrument for decades, and I'm pretty decent as long as you don't ask me to play speed metal or heavy funk. I want to learn to love playing music again, because I haven't found much to love about it for a while. I'm open to many styles. If it's somewhat eclectic without being contrived, I'm probably interested. If you don't have a premium account you can contact me at minusdevelo66 at gmail dot com

Influences

The two biggies are Beatles and early 70s rock. Also 80s alternative before it was called alternative. Some Celtic. Some Mike Oldfield. Some Black Sabbath. Some cheesy 70s pop. REM, Dramarama, many influences from many genres. My playlist might have an Iron Maiden song, followed by Barry Manilow, followed by Voice of the Beehive, followed by Russian Balalaika music and then Camper Van Beethoven and the Bangles. I'm not saying I sound like any of them, but they are influences. I know very little about music released after the early 90s. I'm sure there's good stuff out there, but I haven't been exposed to much that I liked.
In bands I've played a LOT of classic rock (from bluesy to hard rock to mellower AOR). alternative (from power pop to fairly eclectic), and was in a Latin ensemble band for a while (the bass parts didn't make sense to me at all but somehow I made it work).

EQUIPMENT

It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive as long as I can get what I need out of it. I currently have acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, a keyboard I use with VSTs on the computer, good electronic drums also via computer (the built-in sounds are fine for live playing), misc. other things like microphones, assorted percussion, recorders and whatnot. I use Cakewalk for recording and I have way more VSTs than I'll ever use. I'm a junkie for software. It's all sitting here waiting for me to be productive.
