I am a seasoned drummer for 45 years. I originally started playing percussion at 10 years old where I learned by ear to play. My father wouldn't buy me a kit until I took lessons so I made my first kit out of cardboard boxes...used the bottoms of big cans for cymbals...created a snare drum made with mylar plastic and elastic bands...and a kick pedal made from a pencil, a tennis ball, cardboard and rubber bands. I grew up listening to my father's old Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa albums. Then I discovered KISS, The Who and Led Zeppelin. I really wanted real drums so I took lessons for 4 years learning how to read music and concentrating on 4 way coordination. It came easy and I always had a natural rhythm. I always hear the drums in music first, which made it somewhat challenging for dancing...lol. One of my happiest places is behind a kit. I find it easy to sit down with other solid musicians and get right into the groove. I have an impeccable sense of timing (human metronome) and work well with bassists. I have been in a recording studio which is great, but I really love to play live!
