ABOUT

My name is Troy, and I have been playing music my whole life. My mother was a piano teacher, and the first instrument I began learning to play was piano. When I was in elementary school I began playing trumpet. I played trumpet in bands all the way through college and graduate school. I played trumpet in the university jazz bands in college and graduate school, toured Japan and South Korea, and even performed with Tito Puente and Gerry Mulligan in concerts. I also have performed at Carnegie Hall on trumpet. I played French horn in the wind symphony, and have toured and played across the U.S., in Canada and in Asia.

I've been playing bass for about 10 years, but feel like I've been doing it my whole life. I love playing, and my days feel empty when I don't. It comes naturally to me.

My day job is as a doctor with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. I have a private practice on the side. I stay very busy professionally, but, music is my passion, and I would love to make time to be able to play in a group, and do some performing. I'm really interested in being able to get together with some other musicians who love music and the joy of playing. This can be just for fun, but I would love being able to perform for others, as well.

I can read music, but just not for the bass. I can play along with anything, and love all styles of music.

Really looking for some decent, stable folks to play with. I don't do drugs, and don't have an interest in working with people who have that as a signficant part of their lives. I don't have a problem with people drinking. I'm married, 5 kids who are all out of the house.

Influences

I was a teen in the 1980s. Grew up loving and listening to classic rock. I have playlists in my phone which covers the The Police, The Who, Chicago, Steely Dan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Cream, Badfinger, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Billy Joel, EW&F, classic R&B. There's my 1960s playlist with The Beatles (one of my favorite groups of all time), The Monkees, The Doors, Motown, CCR, CSN&Y. I enjoy 1980s music, Hall and Oates, Genesis, pretty much anything pop from that era. I don't know much modern pop, and pretty much can't name anything that's on the radio today. Don't have any interest in most of it.

In addition to classic rock, I am a huge jazz afficionado. I grew up listening to vocal jazz like Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme. I thrived on Blue Note label jazz from the be-bop era, and have an extensive collection from Art-Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and all of his musicians (Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Kenny Dorham, Horace Silver, etc..).

My all-time favorites: Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Earth Wind and Fire, Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Prince, Harry Connick Jr., Horace Silver, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. I'm also a big fan of James Jamerson, and have great respect for Victor Wooten. I also enjoy classic R&B, blues.
