SEEKING
Vocalist, Rhythm Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Violin, Keyboard, Piano, Banjo, Mandolin, Fiddle.ABOUT
I am a classically trained violin/violist-turned fiddle player looking to hang out with a cool person/people on the weekends, drink some beers, play some tunes, and hopefully gig at some point (but I'm not in a huge hurry to get there). I'm not too particular on instrumentation, but it'd be nice to have something that could fill in harmonies (piano, guitar, etc.). Also, although I like to sing, I'm not great at it, and I've had many vocal problems in the past, so someone who could sing would be a great plus (with this genre, it doesn't necessarily need to be good, just needs a bit of accuracy). Otherwise, I'm fine with just playing instrumental tunes with the occasional vocals thrown in,
I used to play in a very mediocre band that played an interesting niche--Irish tunes, sea shanties, pub songs, 18th through 20th century folk songs, particularly those with a sea-faring twist (Tim Finnegan's Wake, Irish Rover, the Diamond, the Mermaid, Boozin', assorted jigs and reels, etc.). Although we were pretty mediocre, I still learned alot, and we were good enough to get the crowd drunk and singing along! What fun!
I am a very full time music teacher (I teach strings in a local public school, as well as private lessons).
I'm hoping to keep this sort of niche (it has a dear place in my heart), but I'm willing to learn from an intelligent and fun person who's willing to learn from me too (we can share!) I also drive alot with my job, so I'm really hoping to stay near the UConn area.
My goals are:
1. To have fun playing music I love, even if it's in my own living room.
2. To hang out with some cool people.
3. To continue to learn and grow as a musician.
4. Eventually get back into that spotlight that feels so good.
I teach all day long--I'm not really interested in holding someone's hand through this whole thing, so it'd be nice if you'd have something to bring to the table to contribute.
