ABOUT

Having fun. Using loopers to construct songs with rhythms, leads, harmonies, etc.

What I value most is good songwriting. I'm typically a storyteller.

What I value second most is juxtaposition. Something that sounds different than you expected to hear. I love the country riffs played through LPs and Marshalls on Uncle Tupelo stuff. The gravel of Tom Waits' voice over a lazy piano riff.

-Vocals:
Effective Range: D2-G4 in chest voice, on up to F#5 with falsetto.
Been working with vocal coach to develop falsetto as of late. Kind of a mellow voice, probably more suitable for ballads than powering over rock anthems. More grit than Jackson Browne. Less than Bob Seger. I have a very good ear for figuring out harmonies and enjoy working with people if they need a little help finding the right part.
-Guitar:
I'm not SRV nor Chet Atkins, but I can usually hold my own in a jam session. Enjoy constructing simple solos, usually blues based. I aspire to play like Mark Knopfler or like Doug Pettibone on Lucinda Williams's "Live at the Fillmore." Currently, I sound a little more like the Bottle Rockets. :-) Don't expect speed metal solos or classical fingerpicking from this dude...unless you want to teach me! :-)

Influences

I listen to a lot of alt. country like DBT, Lucero, Steve Earle, Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, etc.

Also, a lot of folk rock like Neil Young, Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen (the good stuff, not the popular stuff), Mark Knopfler, Gregory Alan Isakov, etc.

I tend to like grittier songwriters, like Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Jason Isbell, Johnny Cash, etc.

Recent digs: Band of Horses, The Shins, Old 97's,

I'm a product of the grunge generation, so I love me a good Mike McCready solo and some Alice in Chains harmony.
