ABOUT

Hello,
My name is Josh, just moved to the area. My musical background is eclectic--I have a huge soft spot for emo and math rock, but I grew up playing mostly punk rock and nu-metal (and I apologize to anyone who bore witness to that latter phase). I performed in my college's Jazz band as their guitarist, though I'd honestly consider my primary instrument to be bass. I write my own material, but am also totally willing to be a component in someone else's process. I am content with a background role, as I am not necessarily looking to be a star. I simply love music and wish to make it my eventual living. I can play most standard rock instruments (Guitar/Drums/Bass) to an above average level, and I have 9 years of choir experience. I also used to be a music major on a voice scholarship. So long as everyone involved is passionate **and** amicable, I am willing to fill whatever role you need! I can keep up with odd time signatures and have a fairly large chord vocabulary, though I'm not much of a shredder.

Q: Can you play metal?
A: I can tremelo pick power chords and diminished chords very quickly. Does that count..? If not, I am probably not near metal enough for you.

Q: So you're a Jazz guitarist?
A: So I've been told? I wouldn't consider it my specialty, but I have experience. It would explain a lot of my chord voicing choices (I love min9, maj7, and 13 chords).

Q: What do you bring that another musician couldn't?
A: Really big hands and an afro. Ever play a chord spanning 6 frets? It's painful, but plausible with my monster hands. For guitar in particular, I tend to play very wide voicings, be it stacked 5ths, adding a 4th in the bass, or doing very fast triadic movements akin to The Smiths (Johnny Marr is a guitar hero of mine).

Q: How much theory do you know?
A: HA!HAHAHA!HA...Ha... Oh... Um...
*Enough.* I flunked out as a music student and can't read sheet music very well, but I can follow Roman numerals (I-IV-V-bVI-bVII-I etc.), know how to play in pretty much any key, and I successfully made it through college level Theory II off of intuition and sincere effort. I play mostly by ear.

Q: Any other hobbies?
A: I am an avid gamer and follower of e-sports, particularly League of Legends. I also try my hand at composing video game music, with my biggest influences being Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy/Square Enix), Shoji Meguro (Persona/ATLUS), and Toby Fox (Undertale/Indie).

Q: I feel like I know too much about you. Can we stop..?
A: Fair enough... Though if you have questions, text 817 240 9055 to contact me. I am open to most all auditions within the Austin/Round Rock area if I feel the music is up my alley :D

Also if you made it this far, thank you for parsing through that vaguely coherent wall of text.
