ABOUT

I've been a professional singer (read: PAID, always PAID) since I was 14 years old. I've sung blues on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village and classical at Carnegie Hall. I began singing in bands on weekends out of town when I was 14, and in college switched to doing single gigs with acoustic 12-string guitar because it was easier (no rehearsals, no band issues, I auditioned alone so I ALWAYS got the gig, and I kept all the money). I learned to be a showman and deliver a song whether standing or sitting (playing acoustic 12 is much easier to play sitting down!), dancing or standing still. When singing classical lieder (art song), you stand still and all you have to use is your face, and possibly your hands and arms. I read music for both vocal and piano scores and could easily be a studio musician, although I've not done that yet.

Influences

I know most music genres well, classical to hard rock to country and can sing it all - and HAVE. My grandfather was a child prodigy violinist at age 6 and made his living as a symphonic conductor and first violinist DURING THE DEPRESSION! I grew up with music and surrounded by musicians.

EQUIPMENT

Nothing fancy. An Ensenada 12-string acoustic guitar made out of Alaskan sitka wood, which gives it a beautiful, clear, ringing tone without shrill overtones or thunkiness in the low end, a very plain keyboard with full size keys. My beautiful, treasured Sennheiser microphone, that made you sound like GOD, has been stolen... I'll buy another if it's worthwhile to do so.
