ABOUT

Originally from Little Rock, Arkansas and with over 35 years of professional experience, Naylene has performed in over 20 countries around the world. Highlights of her musical career include performances at the 1990 Presidential Innauguration in Washington D.C. for President Bill Clinton, the cast and crew of the popular 80’s television program ‘Designing Women, performances for various government officials and dignitaries in many countries, and as back-up for Jim Messina, & the country band ‘Restless Heart’. Her music videos aired on TNN’s ‘Nashville Now’ television show in the early ‘90’s. Most recent performances have been in New Zealand, Australia and Asia. Her home base has been in Malaysia for the past 7 years, performing for a variety of private functions, hotels and various restaurants. In addition to her solo music career, Naylene was the lead vocalist & keyboardist, and sang harmony for15 years with the popular band ‘The Common Good’, who were known not only for their variety in song selections and genres, but for their original arrangements with vocal harmony. They were often compared to groups such as Take Six and The Manhattan Transfer. Performances included weddings, birthday parties, political and community functions, and fund-raising events in Arkansas and throughout the United States.

Naylene’s musical forte as a solo artist is background dining music and vocals to slightly more upbeat favorites, as indicated in her repertoire list. Her voice is likened to Karen Carpenter and Anne Murray, with a touch of country and soul in her vocals. And, her solo performances are enhanced by digitally programmed backing tracks for a ‘one-gal-band’ effect.

Formal training includes classical piano instruction at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, The University of Arkansas Fayetteville, & Ouachita Baptist University. She began performing professionally at age 12, and began teaching private piano lessons at the age of 17.

Naylene participated in the Miss Arkansas Pageant and won the coveted title of Miss Arkansas in 1978 and went on to compete in the Miss America Pageant where she received music and scholastic scholarships. She later became the co-director of the Miss Little Rock Pageant, a sanctioned Miss America Preliminary Pageant.

Naylene now brings her music back to the United States and to her childhood home of the Bay Area after almost 2 decades of sailing around the world and completing 2 circumnavigations with her New Zealand partner Philip Johnston. She is available immediately for public engagements and private functions. She is also available to join existing musical groups.
