Columbus Musicians
Columbus is home many music festivals including the Jazz and Rib Fest which takes place at the end of July every year. The Jazz and Rib fest offers some of Columbus’s best eating and live jazz music. Another popular Columbus tradition is the Dublin Irish Festival which is an annual event that takes place at the beginning of August. This festival offers the best of Irish culture including music, dance, traditional workshops, whiskey tasting and Celtic Sports competitions.
Columbus is also home to famous musicians like John Legend, Jerome Dillon who was the former drummer for Nine Inch Nails, Bow Wow, Jay DeMarcus who is the bassist in Rascal Flatts, Gary LeVox, lead singer of Rascal Flatts, Joe “Foley” McCreary who was the bass player for Miles Davis, Dwight Yoakam, and O.A.R.
Newport Music Hall is one of Columbus’s oldest rock clubs. It has been known in the past as the State Theater as well as the Agora Ballroom. Newport Music Hall was also one of the first places U2 performed when they first arrived in the United States. The Grateful Dead, Genesis, the Beach Boys, and Muddy Water have all performed here. Thirsty Ear Tavern is another popular music hot spot that caters to a diverse group of jazz, blues, rock, folk, rockabilly, and Celtic music lovers. Little Brother’s is also a place to visit in Columbus. Little Brother’s has featured big name acts like Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkin, and John Lee Hooker.
