Beale Street Music Festival, a huge part of Memphis in May Festival, kicks off the celebration showcasing popular local and national musicians. Beale Street which is known as “Home of the Blues” and “The Birthplace of Rock N’ Roll” is filled with clubs, restaurants and shops. The Rum Boogie Café is a popular bar that offers drinks, food, and live musical entertainment. Its performers range the local music scene as well popular bands and musicians like Aerosmith and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Some other popular hot spots are the Blues City Café, which was visited often by President Clinton when in town, and B.B. King’s Blues Club offering dinner and live musical entertainment.

The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum is another popular attraction telling stories of musicians overcoming racial and socio-economic difficulties. Stax Museum of American Soul Music tells the story of Stax Records, a popular and crucial record label in soul music’s past. Sun Studio is yet another musical attraction in Memphis. Sun Studio offer tours through the ‘Birthplace of Rock N’ Roll” explaining the collaboration of blues and country music. It even offers the chance to hear recording sessions, touch Elvis’ first microphone, and see memorabilia of the studio that launched the careers of Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley. These are just a few places to visit regarding Memphis’ musical past.
